Like mama, like sonâ¦
Just like his mother, Yazid was persuasive as hell. Him getting me out of the house told me that. I tried to finagle out of dinner, and he suggested lunch instead. I insisted on following him in my own car, and he accused me of not trusting him, ultimately guilt-tripping me into getting into the front seat of his brand-new Cadillac. I tried to keep from ordering any kind of adult beverage, and here I was on my second Manhattan, at Bridges, a fancy restaurant in Danville.
Funny thing about it, though, was that I didnât feel like he was trying to control me. It was more of him trying to get me to loosen the reins that I had wrapped around myself. I was impressed. There werenât too many people that could sway my decisions once I made them, but Yazid ⦠he was different. I could have easily chalked it up to, âThe customer is always rightâ¦â and say thatâs why I went with the flow. But the truth was that I liked his energyâthat potent masculine energy. From the time he walked into my in-law space, his aura drew me in. The picture had only told a piece of the story. In person, so much more about him came to lightâlike the way that he smelled. And the way that his stare penetrated and made me feel like I was on an episode of the fuckinâ Originals, being compelled by one of the Mikaelsons.
Katrina was right to suggest the in-person, because, yeah ⦠the pictures couldnât capture the essence of any of that.
I emptied my glass, and then looked over at Yazid, who already had his eyes fixed on me ⦠hard. I wanted to look away, to act like I didnât see it. But I couldnât. Honestly, it was like waiting for an event to start and not wanting to leave, because you might miss something. I felt the need to break the silence, but what could I even say right now without sounding dumb?
âYou good?â he asked, a half-smile showing. âHowâs the food?â
âIâm goodâ¦â I managed to say. âWas just thinking that between you and Miss Katrina, I wonât miss a meal at all.â
âAnd maybe get a little buzz out the deal too, right?â
âThat too.â He got a smile out of me with that one. Definitely felt good having a buzz, and getting to feel a little less like I had to be in control of ⦠well, everything.
âAnd besides, you have to keep the nutrients coming. And keep all that thickness intact.â
Boyyy, if you donât stop playinâ with meâ¦
Whew ⦠let me try to respond without a stutterâ¦
âThickness, huh?â
Girl! Thatâs all you could come up with?
He didnât respond for a few seconds, but then ⦠âYep, thickness.â I was burning up on the inside. The mixture of alcohol, those pretty-ass eyes penetrating me, and his little seductive subliminals ⦠damn. I was all kinds of hot and bothered. âSo, tell me about yourself, young lady.
